Interview with Brandon Sanderson

Last month, even before he finished his hectic Towers of Midnight tour, Brandon Sanderson kindly agreed to answer some questions for us in an email interview.  We got right to work on some fun and interesting questions – Copes helped to catalog issues that people were curious about from the forums – and narrowed the list down to some of the ones that seemed least likely to get RAFO’ed (a RAFO, in case you haven’t seen the term before, is an answer of “Read and find out”).  We still cut it pretty close on a few of them, and we appreciate Brandon doing his best to tell us something without giving too much away!  Click “more” to read the full interview (both questions and answers are free of major Way of Kings and Wheel of Time spoilers, for those still reading).

Delving Deeper Into the Shin

Greetings all,

I have been given the privilege of occasionally sparking some discussion in regards to a particular theory with a post here on the blog. The nature of these discussions will vary from post to post. Sometimes, I will provide a theory developed from my own readings. Other times, I will spotlight a theory posted by someone on our forums. Lastly, I sometimes may write a bit about a topic we only have some information on, and provide a platform for discussion and speculation to begin. Hopefully we can ignite some great debate and figure out the books before Sanderson even has a chance to write them! I’ve been very excited to make my first post, however, due to an ungodly amount of  school work and an unfortunate death in the family which pulled me home my single weekend off, I’ve been held up.

I had wanted to provide you all with a mind blowing, earth shattering theory of my own with my first post. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances presented above, this simply hasn’t been the case. I’m not happy enough with anything I’ve been working on to post it, but I don’t want to delay my first post any longer either. So, I’ve decided to focus on someone else’s theory, posted back in September, that I’ve always believed deserved more discussion. While I was initially skeptical when I read it, as time has passed, I’ve began to wonder if there is some bits of truth in the theory. At the very least, I believe it deserves more discussion.

Mobile Access to Stormblessed Forum

We have installed and tested a plugin & mobile app that makes the forum (mostly) quicker and neater to view on mobile devices like phones and the Ipod Touch.  One very important note before going into any other detail…

This plugin/mobile app does not support the SPOILER= tag we use (the tag is not a standard part of the forum code; it’s a mod).  Spoilers appear “revealed” in the mobile app.  So if you must avoid spoilers, you’ll want to use your regular mobile browser or wait and use your computer.  I have requested that support for the spoiler tag be added in a future version.

The Ars Arcanum and Heralds

Editor’s note: Neverearth has provided some very interesting observation and theory about the Heralds in relation to the Ars Arcanum information in the back of The Way of Kings.  Other fans who have developed a theory or a new compilation of Stormlight Archive information are welcome to contact us; we look forward to showcasing a lot more fan musing and commentary on the blog!  Of course, as with most theories, there are varying degrees of spoiler within.  If you haven’t finished The Way of Kings, you may wish to bookmark this post and come back later.

This originated in my mind from the chapter headings, and the faces that changed with each chapter. I originally gave them personalities in my mind, with no real basis except how they looked. Then I saw that nifty Ars Arcanum table at the back of the book.
